Nine hours isn't a lot of time when you have a lot to do; and you'll agree that productive work hours have been shortened considerably in Lagos, no thanks to the recent ban on okada and commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke Marwa. It's been a lot harder to commute, lately.
Hey, I get it: it's been hellish, and you may be "a little pissed" with the ban that has got you panting and cursing on your way to work; and with you having to spend precious minutes recuperating before starting the day properly. Guess what; I've got awesome tips that will get you doing more at work, regardless of #Okadaban. I've got your back; so, let's go!
1. Save on the Drive.
Why not download Office OneDrive or save your files on Google Drive? This way, when you and your team-mates have access to one resource, you can easily share, edit and collaborate while on the move. So, if you are in a danfo, Uber or even at home catching your breath, you can rest assured that you aren't dropping the ball at work.
2. Leave home earlier.
Of course, you should! How about leaving home an hour earlier? And, if it's totally unsafe to do so, you could have a sincere conversation with your line manager or HR, informing them of the risks, and requesting an adjustment in your resumption and closing times. For instance, you could resume at 9 am instead of 8 am, and then close an hour later than usual, so as to make up for it.
And if dem no gree, sorry o.
3. Dress comfortably.
Whether you drive or not, it's only advisable to dress comfortably in Lagos at this time. Keep the fashion simple and functional. Don't forget: it's really warm these days.
Must you wear that 'monkey jacket'? Sigh!
4. Drink a lot of water.
Stay hydrated and have some water with you as you commute. Your body needs water for concentration and, in the warm weather, the body loses water quickly. More so as you now have to spend more time on the road, no thanks to the ban on okada.
Bigi Cola is not water. I repeat: Bigi Cola is not water. Soft drinks are diuretic. Don' ask me; Google it.
"I am thirsty. Abeg give me one Bigi and two Gala!" Hian!
5. Plan, collaborate and rest.
Avoid information overload, break your tasks down to manageable bits, and follow-through. Request help and collaborate with teammates.
You are not Super Man or Super Woman. Stress takes its toll on the body and mind; and you can only stay productive when you are able to manage time, resources and people effectively.
In other words, no go dey do pass yourself. Aha! This brings me to the next tip for productivity. This one is quite deep.
6. Have fun or take a break.
Personally, music gets me through a tough day. For others, it could be time outs at intervals. Yet, for some, it's a computer game. Whatever works for you, take some time out to relax.
If you are a music lover like I am, you could listen to your favourite songs while you work, if the business policy or job allows it.
Don't worry, with these simple tips #OkadaBan has nothing on us. Stay winning.
